Using the Thermomix to Lose Weight!

Normally my thermomix is busy whirring away almost all day, but lately it has been having a much more restful time. I am losing some unwanted kilo's that have snuck up on me over the past year or so and have cut back on making many of the wonderful goodies that my thermomix can so easily produce. No lovely ice creams, biscuits, pastries, breads and desserts. Sigh! I have lost 3kgs though and am starting to notice that my clothes are fitting much better. It is hard work, but so worth it when you feel better about yourself. I'm not out to become a skinny-minny, but am not prepared to buy new clothes when I already have perfectly good clothes that are just a bit too tight.

I have been mainly just using my thermomix for juice, salads and our main meals (and a couple of loaves of bread and batches of rolls for the family). I also made the boys some anzac biscuits and LTM's (little thermomix munchies - rapadura and honey sweetened with puffed rice) as I don't really like those and am not tempted to nibble on them. :-) I have been using the varoma (the thermomix steam oven) for most of our meals. Steaming is just such a healthy way to cook. We have been loving Baf's Chicken Meal and ILB's Spiced Chicken and Sweet Potato dish. I just have a little sauce and make sure there are lots of steamed veggies to fill up on. Earlier in the week I combined the two recipes and had the spiced tomato sauce in the bowl, potatoes in the basket, marinaded chicken in the varoma dish and sliced veggies in the tray. It was delicious!

Tonight we are trying the Chicken Breasts in Tomato Sauce with Mushrooms for dinner. I am looking forward to trying a new recipe. As much as I am loving losing weight, I am really missing my extra time in the kitchen cooking and creating new recipes. Hopefully in another couple of weeks I will reach my goal weight and be able to gradually get back into my baking again. I have a couple of wholegrain baking recipes that I am hanging out to try.

One good thing about spending less time in the kitchen baking is that I have almost found my way to the bottom of my mending basket. When the kidlets have been resting I have been busy taking up trousers (I am a shortie), mending seams on shorts, reworking trousers into shorts and mending a lovely fabric handbag that was coming apart. My very crafty friend Mandy would be proud of me this week! It is amazing how much money you can save if you can sew a little. I am thankful that I have wonderfully practical parents who gave me a sewing machine for my 21st birthday. It has come in so handy over the years - especially since the arrival of our boys. :-)
